Guidance for children & young people
Help is available to students against bullying and abuse
It is important that students seek help, if they are being bullied, abused, worried they may be abused or have another safeguarding concern. Talking to an adult they can trust can help them to find ways to stop it from occurring.
Why talk to someone
There are three important reasons:
1. to stop the bullying or abuse,
2. to start to get over what happened,
3. to protect other children.
Who to Contact
If a student has a concern, they can contact one of the following people:
- Host or residence manager
- Centre Manager
- St Brelade’s College main school office
- School Student Services department
- Teacher
- Activity Leader
- Friend or relative
- School emergency line (evenings & weekends)
- School Principal
Telling someone about bullying or abuse may be very hard and can feel scary. Children or young people may be worried about what will happen if they talk about it, or if it will be believed. Sometimes it can help to write things down first. The person they talk to may want to report the abuse to another professional who can take steps to see that it stops.
Child Helplines
If it’s too difficult to talk to someone, a helpline can be contacted for useful advice. This can be done anonymously if preferred, and students can say as little or as much as they want.
